Charles Clas secures dismissal of domestic assault charges in Minneapolis

Attorney Charles Clas recently secured the complete dismissal of domestic assault charges stemming from an incident in Minneapolis, Minnesota (Hennepin County). In addition to a criminal conviction and potential jail, Charles’ client was faced with the threat of significant collateral consequences, including the permanent loss of his federal right to possess firearms. Through a proactive investigation and executing a strategy based on experience, Charles was able to convince the Minneapolis City Attorney’s Office to dismiss the charges outright, avoiding a conviction and any additional consequences for his client.

Charges and convictions for domestic assault carry significant and stigmatized collateral consequences and need to be handled proactively. This includes domestic assault—harm; domestic assault—fear; interference with an emergency phone call; interference with a 911 call; domestic assault by strangulation. In addition to the serious criminal consequences, individuals charged with and convicted of those offenses in Minnesota can face substantial hardships in terms of obtaining employment, suitable housing, as well as suffering adverse collateral consequences.
